Contracting...
An
excellent year for the knowledge based industry with record
levels of earnings being recorded by independent contractors
and specialist IT & security consultancies. As we see out
the old millennium, however, we hear uttered across every discussion
group, conference and exhibition. "What about IR35?"
This
legislation will not concern the well established limited
companies who have created a network of associates, but
these are few and far between. The personal service company
is a conundrum in every other EU country, yet many independents
have been employed by overseas Financial Houses. The full
effect of the proposals will correct an imbalanced situation.
The
customers of such independents must by now be feeling
quite frustrated. But we have
to now revive the cycle of expertise and
appreciate that the skills
of
the experts will continue to grow. Advice or interim support
will revert back to preferred consultants and vendors.

Additional
costs may be a result but the growing number of contractors
converted to permanent placement or managed service with us
have been surprised at the increased value of flexible benefits
since they were last in permanent employment. Clients will be
demanding greater flexibility from suppliers. On one hand payroll
management, whilst enlightened suppliers are those addressing
skills shortages. Our job is to highlight environments for the
development of individuals. |
